It’s been 10 exciting and adventurous years!
the merry poppins have decided to take a break. The individual musicians will move on with other projects. You may want to check out: HELO, Brian Brain – club audioprovocateur… and more!
Our gratitude goes out to all our hilarious fans, promoters, festival-people, media, … all over the planet!
And to all the individuals & institutions who have supported us so far! – You rock!

the band:
David Lageder – voc
Herbert Könighofer – sax
Thomas Aichinger – guit
Mathias Vorauer – bass
Robert Aichinger – drums

Roadtrips on the Balkans, concerts in Cairo, Qena, Moscow, Jerusalem, Pontarlier, in the Central Asian steppe – or down by the River Jordan, … and a whole lot of other stuff is what has made the merry poppins special.

Their vivid mix of styles that is expressed in their originals can not be pigeonholed. The majority of the songs have a stylized cabaret flavor with interesting horn riffs complementing the walking bass line nicely. What people have called it? Here’s just a few: „Klezmer, Rhythm & Blues, Swing, Dixie, Urban Roots Reggae, Ska, Balkans Pop, Jive, Polka, Ragtime, Country & Western, After Hours-Jazz,…” – A groovy glocalized mix that has already seduced quite a few people to a dance’ thru the night.

Hailing from Salzburg, Austria, the band has advanced from an insiders’ tip to a hot international stage act within the past years. Following numerous shows in all kinds of venues, from skanky Jazz clubs to posh castle-resorts, the merry poppins have been invited to play at the International Bansko Jazz Festival 2008 & 12 (Bulgaria), the International Saalfelden Jazzfestival 2008 & 11 (Austria), at Cairo Jazz Festival (Egypt) in 2010, at Bucharest Europafest (2011) and at Jarasum Jazz Festival in Korea (2014). They have toured Austria, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Egypt, Israel, France, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgysztan and Korea.

After the successful release of their debut-album Mildenburg 11 in 2007, the merry poppins came out with their second album Inspector Malosso in 2009 and in 2011, their first Live album (the merry poppins – Live in Moscow) dropped. In 2013 the merry poppins did not only tour Central Asia, but documented this trip a road movie.

SIDDHITA

„Cold Coffee, no Milk“ is the name of a track of the Indian-Austrian project of Sucheta Ganguly, Prabir Mitra and Herbert Könighofer. If a rehearsal day already starts like that, the blessings of Siddhita are urgently required! Siddhita is a manifestation of the Divine in the Hindu pantheon in the shape of Ganesha. Siddhita stands for “the one who gives you success in your work” – And Siddhita has been generous with the 3 musicians!

The close interaction of Sucheta Ganguly, with her strong, richly nuanced voice, and the 2 musicains Prabir Mitra on Tablas and Herbert Könighofer on various flutes and saxes, draws the audience’s attention with emotional force. Prabir Kumar Mitra and Herbert Könighofer have been working together in the project k3 goes india for more than 10 years, Sucheta joined in in 2012. The singer who was born in 1984 had started her music carreer at an early age, inspired by her father the musician Bhajan Krishna Ganguly and studied at the reknown ITC Sangeet Research Academy.
